Former SuperSport United midfielder Morne Nel has signed a new three-year contract with Cape Town Spurs as his career revival continues.
Nel, 27, was touted as one of the brightest prospects in South African football when emerging from the Old Mutual Academy in Cape Town.
Like many of the talents from the club, SuperSport came knocking and his rise with to prominence was inspiring, with Premier League side Tottenham among the suitors at the time.
But after some personal issues, after his loan spell at Ajax Cape Town before the relegation, he fell off the map in 2019 before trying to resurrect his career in Brazil, before later returning home, clubless when the move didn’t materialise.
Another chance was offered two years later at Ikamva, when he joined the ABC Motsepe League team to regain his fitness and the rest is history and he worked himself back into the first team and has made 29 appearances over the past two seasons.
“He’s delighted, the boy has been through hell and back and he’s risen like a phoenix,” his agent Ryan Hartslief at Big Time Sports confirmed to iDiski Times.
“I’d like to thank Sonia as well as Roger Links for the project we’ve worked together on to turn the mans life around, and we wish him well in the future.”
Nel will now be looking to take this momentum in their return to the DStv Premiership and showcase why he was once tipped to become a future star of Bafana Bafana.
