AKA murder trial: Ndimande brothers’ case postponed to March

The legal proceedings against the two brothers accused of the high-profile murder of South African rap sensation Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his close friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, have been delayed.
The case was postponed to March following a brief appearance by the suspects in the Durban Magistrate’s Court.
Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande face a total of 11 criminal charges, including murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
The brothers were extradited back to South Africa to face trial, marking a significant milestone in a case that has gripped the nation since the tragic events of early 2023.
The charges stem from the cold-blooded killing of AKA, one of the continent’s most influential hip-hop artists, on 10 February 2023.
The multi-award-winning rapper was gunned down at close range outside a popular restaurant on Durban’s Florida Road. His long-time friend and celebrity chef, “Tibz” Motsoane, was also fatally shot in the incident, which was captured on harrowing CCTV footage that later went viral.
The assassination of AKA sent shockwaves through the global music community, ending the life of a performer known for hits such as Fela in Versace and Levels.
As the court waits to resume in March, the families of both victims continue their long wait for closure.
