Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi says ‘it would be nice’ to witness an all-South African affair in the Caf Champions League final.

SA teams are currently well in continental football with former African champions Mamelodi Sundowns top of Group A after beating Egyptian giants Al Ahly 1-0 on Saturday, while AmaZulu are in second place in Group B following their 1-0 victory over Guinea’s Horoya AC on Friday.

Ncikazi’s troops moved to the summit of the Group B standings in the Caf Confederation Cup as they came back from 2-0 down to hammer eSwatini’s Royal Leopards 6-2 away from home on Sunday.

The Pirates coach also believes good showing by SA teams can only benefit Bafana Bafana. “I look at the South African game, I don’t look at individual teams, AmaZulu doing well, Sundowns doing well, history being made there, Sundowns winning in Egypt against Al Ahly,” he said.

“It is just a rise of SA teams, and if that’s the direction we are taking even going to the national team, it is just positive for the country. I hope all the teams that are still part of the competition can go further, as high as they can.

“It would be nice to see a final between Sundowns and AmaZulu, And Pirates win the other trophy [Confed Cup],” concluded Ncikazi.
