Ncikazi Questions Officials After Pirates Red Card

Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi has explained why goalkeeper coach Sjoerd Woudenberg was sent off but hinted at double standards from officials.

Woudenberg was shown a red card in the opening half during their 0-0 draw with Cape Town City at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening in what appeared to be about an argument with the Citizens’ technical team.

In the post-match press conference,Ncikazi posed the question over why the member of their technical was the only one punished for the incident that took place.

“Our coach and the head coach of Cape Town City were arguing – if that was the case then give the red card to both of them, surprisingly, this one gets the red card and the other one doesn’t,”Ncikazi said.

“The less said about officiating the better, because it’s not in our control but if you count the number of decisions that go against our team, you should be the witness, Golden Arrows, the player handles the ball like a goalkeeper but no decision.

“I’m just giving you one example when there’s plenty like that, so decisions about officials, let’s leave it to them, we’re not in control, we can only control the players on the field and the outcome.”

The point left Pirates in fourth place, level on points with Kaizer Chiefs – who have played three games fewer – ahead of the Soweto Derby on Saturday.
