Orlando Pirates co coach Mandla Ncikazi says conceding two goals in seven minutes was the worst start he has had in a football match, but he was pleased how his team fought back to beat Royal Leopards 6-2 in Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup match.
Leopards stunned Pirates in the opening ten minutes at Mbombela Stadium, as they found themselves 2-0 down.
Ncikazi said his team took things took easy, and the Eswatini team showed more passion.
“The worst start that I have ever faced in football,” Ncikazi said at the post match presser.
“Sometimes when logic is so common, passion takes through.
“I thought the team from Swaziland was more passionate, and I thought we took things too easy.
“We warned our team against that. Now we had to fight back.
“But what was more pleasing after having equalised going forward, we cannot have that attitude.”
And after Pirates were in the lead at half-time, they added a further three goals in the second half and that pleased Ncikazi.
“But I’m happy that we got back, we have the goals, it’s important, I think this group will be decided on the number of goals. So it’s important that we should score.
“We still have a very hard shedule ahead of us and the week is very difficult. You’re playing today, you’re playing on Wednesday, tough match Cape Town City, you’re playing Kaizer Chiefs on the fifth, you’re playing on the ninth, the Nedbank. So the schedule is just an uphill battle.
“I’m just happy that today we got the result. And let’s move forward and look at other matches.”
