The Confederation of African Football have responded to Simba SC’s complaint after being harshly criticised by Orlando Pirates coach Mandla Ncikazi.
The South African co-coach, alongside Fadlu Davids, led Pirates in this season’s CAF Confederations Cup final but he made headlines for not mincing his words about the treatment of their Tanzanian hosts in the quarter-final.
Ncikazi had boldly stated “as Africans, let’s change this mentality that when opponents come to Tanzania, you so hostile to them that you treat them like animals, so inhumane, everywhere you go, we treated so badly”.
Simba CEO Barbara Gonzalez was not impressed with Ncikazi’s comments said she would file a complaint on behalf of the Tanzanian side.
CAF have now confirmed that they did in fact receive an official complaint from Simba, but opted to only punish Ncikazi with a warning.
“CAF received a complaint from Simba SC regarding some comments made by the Coach of Orlando Pirates during the post-match press conference,” the African football mother body stated.
“CAF has studied the complaint in question as well as the response received by Orlando Pirates club.
“CAF Disciplinary Board decided to address a warning letter to Mr. Mandla Ncikazi regarding his comments towards CAF.”
Meanwhile, Simba themselves were found guilty of “performing hazardous rituals” after lighting up fire on the pitch at Orlando Stadium ahead of the quarter-final second leg.
