Nasreddine Nabi to coach his last match for Kaizer Chiefs

Nasreddine Nabi could be on the bench for the last time for Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

Amakhosi need a win over Polokwane City to secure Top 8 finish. The Soweto giants are currently ninth in the Betway Premiership with only one match remaining.

Despite winning the Nedbank Cup earlier this month, Nabi’s job at Kaizer Chiefs is not entirely secured and failure to finish in the Top 8 could seal his fate. In the league, Amakhosi have been inconsistent, only managing just eight wins from their 27 matches.

According to a number of reports, the Tunisian coach is likely to leave should the team finish outside the Top 8. Kaizer Chiefs legend Lucas Radebe however feels Nabi should be given another season to improve the team.

“It’s a pity that we judge coaches by results and he wasn’t great in the league but got us what we haven’t had in the longest time, which is a trophy,” he said as per TimesLive. “I think Nabi deserves another season so that we can see where he is heading.”

Radebe said the club needed to give Nabi resources to bring in quality players next season.

Kaizer Chiefs and Nabi might part ways

“For him to bring consistency and the team to get better in the league so that we challenge for honours and qualify for continental football, the club must invest in players. We are hungry for success and Nabi needs the necessary support from the club. This is a big brand on the continent and support for the coach when it comes to recruiting players is crucial.

“They won the Nedbank Cup and this could be a great platform on which to built a team that will consistently win trophies and compete for league honours,” said Radebe.

Nabi still have two more years in his contract but Kaizer Chiefs might reconsider if the club fails to finish in the Top 8 for yet another season.
