Media personality Nandi Madida was on L-Tido’s podcast yesterday, treating us to a hilarious attempt to speak Sesotho at L-Tido’s urging.

Madida has been in the media for years, as a podcast host, MC, and television host, and has been a central character in Beyoncé’s visual album Black is King.

On the L-Tido podcast, the host had Madida over for a frank and fun conversation, a part of which she tried to speak Sesotho with L-Tido.

Madida was visibly overwhelmed by L-Tido’s speed, but insisted she was okay to proceed.

“Eya, ntate,” she says as she chuckles nervously.

“Guys, I’m trying to challenge myself, I wanna learn new languages,” Nandi says.

L-Tido asked her about her family life in KwaZulu-Natal.

To her credit, Madida knows the words for mom and dad, but falls short of listing the other members of the family.

“Yo yo yo yo. Ntate, mme. Ke nna, ndim, me. Bhuti…” she says.

L-Tido throws her a lifeline: “O ne o na le b abuti”, which translates to “You had brothers”.

She resorts to what can only be assumed to be sign language, ending up with a bit of Afrikaans.

“Ek is deurmekaar. Nee, man!” quips Nandi.
