N1 South in Johannesburg reopened after oil tanker crash

The N1 South in Johannesburg has been fully reopened after an oil tanker crash near the Maraisburg exit.
City officials say traffic is now flowing smoothly and diversions have been lifted.
The tanker, which was carrying paraffin, caused a diesel leak that required cleanup by emergency teams.

The N1 South, after the Maraisburg exit in Johannesburg, has finally been opened following a major accident involving a tanker.

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson, Xolani Fihla, says all previously closed lanes on the N1 South are now reopened to traffic.

“Traffic is currently free-flowing, and delays are easing rapidly,” said Fihla.

Motorists who were diverted earlier are advised that they can now use the N1 South through the affected area.

“We thank all road users for their patience and cooperation while emergency services and law enforcement officials worked diligently to manage the hazardous situation and clear the highway,” Fihla added.

The tanker involved in the accident was reportedly carrying paraffin and caused a diesel leak.
