South Africans have weighed in on Advocate Malesela Teffo’s comments, with many comparing the Senzo Myiwa trial to a never-ending movie.
Teffo represents four of the five people charged with the murder of Senzo Meyiwa. On Thursday afternoon, he was arrested inside the Pretoria High Court.
Teffo topped the list of social media trends shortly after his arrest. The vast majority of social media users felt sorry for the Advocate, believing that he was being bullied and victimized by those in power.
During his arrest, Advocate Teffo claimed that he didn’t know why he was being detained and that he had not been read his rights. He also claimed that the Police Minister, Bheki Cele, and others in power do not want him working on the case and want him arrested; however, Cele denied this and stated that he was unaware of the arrest.
The defence lawyer for four of the five men accused of killing #SenzoMeyiwa, Advocate Malesela Teffo, was earlier arrested in court. @TshegoMoagi_ reflects on today’s events in the murder trial.
“This spectacle smacks of a setup to embarrass the attorney. Why? Why not arrest him in an area away from public viewing,” asked @Clive Barham.
“If the police can explain to the public who instructed them to arrest Adv Teffo with a fraudulent warrant, then the minister can explain further or must be fired. He has failed numerous times to arrest those involved in the Senzo Meyiwa’s saga,” @1dis_man tweeted.
As far as I know the warrant can only be authorised and issued by the court and it’s the court that should cancel it if necessary haaay the today’s movie…….
During court proceedings, it was alleged that Adv Teffo has faced intimidation tactics, death threats as well as plans to arrest him. pic.twitter.com/sxwEziTABQ
