Mzansi Reacts To IsiZulu Version Of SpongeBob SquarePants
SpongeBob SquarePants in isiZulu has been released by Nickelodeon Africa and will air on NickToons between December and January.
The show will premiere on NickToons, DStv channel 308, on December 5 at 15:00 CAT, according to the channel.

With a cumulative audience of 10 million viewers, and one of Nickelodeon’s most-watched shows, the network aims to use pop culture to promote and preserve regional languages.
SpongeBob SquarePants: isiZulu, which has English subtitles, provides a wonderful opportunity for the entire family to learn and enjoy isiZulu.
It’s a known fact that the show is one of the most loved, most watched and most recognisable animated characters of all time, on TV and online and the interesting part, is that it’s watched both by children and adults.
The news was announced by Phil Mphela who wrote: “TV: SpongeBob in Isizulu greenlit Nickelodeon Africa has announced the launch of the full run of SpongeBob SquarePants: isiZulu Nickelodeon tested interest in an isiZulu-dubbed version in July this year and it worked. Starts December 5th on NickToons, @DStv 308.”

Well, the news sparked a huge debate online, with some asking why it had to be in IsiZulu and not any other South African language. While many are already eager to watch the show in their language.

This is progressive and amazing. We often speak about inclusivity and diversity and this right here is it. As small as it is, it speaks volumes about the way Nickelodeon is operating. Hoping other big platforms will follow suit
