South African celebrities joined millions across the country in marking Heritage Day on 24 September, sharing messages, family moments and reflections on the cultures, traditions and experiences that make South Africa unique.

Heritage Day is an annual celebration of the country’s cultural diversity, with living heritage encompassing traditions, oral history, performance, indigenous knowledge, customs and skills passed down from one generation to another.
This year’s national celebrations were held in Oudtshoorn, Western Cape, under the theme ‘Celebrating Our Living Heritage: Strengthening the Ties That Bind Us.’ The theme focused on the role of heritage in promoting social cohesion, Ubuntu and a shared sense of belonging.
As the country celebrated, several Mzansi personalities took to social media to share what heritage and being South African mean to them.
Tirelo Kale celebrates with her baby boy
Reality TV star Tirelo Kale marked her baby’s first Heritage Day with a sweet post featuring herself and her son.
Tirelo shared photos of the pair dressed up for the occasion, while greeting her followers in multiple South African languages.
The post attracted an outpouring of love from her followers, with many celebrating the mother-and-son moment and their cultural heritage.
Spitch Nzawumbi celebrates South African diversity
South African television personality Spitch Nzawumbi also joined the Heritage Day celebrations, reflecting on the importance of South Africa’s diverse cultures and traditions.
