Dr Malusi Gigaba has clarified that his interaction with the IDAC involves allegations of receiving an undeserved benefit.
IDAC confirmed that Gigaba was neither arrested nor appeared in court on Friday.
The matter forms part of ongoing NPA investigations into large-scale corruption at Transnet and other state-owned enterprises.

ANC Member of Parliament and former Public Enterprises Minister, Dr Malusi Gigaba, has clarified that his engagement with law enforcement authorities concerns allegations of receiving an undeserved benefit not procurement-related corruption, as previously reported.

This comes after Gigaba received a letter from the National Prosecuting Authority to attend court on Friday, in relation to alleged corruption charges.

However, the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) confirmed that he has not been arrested and will not be appearing in court yet.

“Mr Malusi Gigaba has not been placed under arrest. He is engaging IDAC and there will be no court appearance today. IDAC will not be commenting any further on the matter,” said IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame in a brief statement.

This development forms part of the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) broader probe into corruption linked to state-owned entities during the state capture era.

The Transnet investigation, in particular, focuses on irregular procurement contracts worth billions of rand, including the R54 billion locomotive deal signed during Gigaba’s tenure as minister between 2010 and 2014.
