Chidinma Adetshina has turned last year’s heartbreak into one of the most remarkable comeback stories in pageantry.

The Soweto-born law student, who made headlines after withdrawing from the Miss South Africa competition amid a bitter nationality row and online abuse relocated to Nigeria and went on to claim the Miss Universe Nigeria crown, later earning the continent title and a top finish at Miss Universe 2024.

After being forced out of the Miss South Africa contest amid accusations and a probe into her family’s documents, she faced harsh social-media attacks that left her questioning her future in the industry.

Rather than fade away, she chose to embrace her Nigerian roots, enter the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, and quickly win the support of a new fan base.

Representing Nigeria at Miss Universe, Adetshina rose to the spotlight, earning the Miss Universe Africa & Oceania title and finishing among the competition’s top placings.

Taking to her Instagram stories, Chidinma Adetshina reflected on her pageantry journey

She wrote: “Last year this time my dreams were shattered in front of my eyes but I am grateful for this journey.”

Her words echoed the emotional toll of her Miss SA exit and the resilience it took to rebuild her pageant dreams.
