Big numbers are close to falling for two fine strikers – Knox Mutizwa and Bradley Grobler.
The latter scored his 99th career goal in South Africa in all competitions on Saturday, meeting a perfect corner in the first half as SuperSport United drew 1-1 with Royal AM at Chatsworth Stadium.
Mutizwa scored his 49th league goal for Arrows when he netted twice as they came from behind to stun Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
Mutizwa first he riffled in the middle in front of the cluster of Chiefs defence to bring numbers to 2-2 in the 69th minute.
Arrows then had their tails up and put Chiefs on the back foot in the defence that was not strong to contain the threat of Mutizwa, Ntsako Makhubela – who scored the first goal for Arrows – Pule Mmodi and Nduduzo Sibiya.
Makhubela, who is on loan from Orlando Pirates, delivered the first blow to Chiefs’ chase for the CAF Champions League spot, scoring just before half-time to draw levels matter after S’fiso Hlanti had put Chiefs ahead.
The Amakhosi again scored first, this time via youngster Mduduzi Shabalala, however, a brace by Mutizwa in the 69th and 78th minute shocked Chiefs in Polokwane.
The second goal was Mutizwa’s 49th league in 163 league appearances and he is now just one shy of scoring his 50th for the club, to become the first player to do so for Arrows.
Overall, Mutizwa, who arrived at Arrows in the second half of the 2016/17 season, has scored 54 goals in 156 appearances in all competitions.
Grobler, whose goal against Royal was his eight this season – one behind Peter Shalulile, told iDiski Times that he is determined to reach the 100 mark, saying during the FIFA World Cup break that he wants to break Siyabonga Nomvethe’s 123-goal record in the PSL era.
Just like Mutizwa, Grobler, who also seems to enjoy scoring against Chiefs, his first goal in the PSL also came against the Amakhosi when he was at Platinum Stars on 20 December 2008.
The 35-year-old was just 20 years, 10 months and 25 days old in the game that finished 2-2.

Grobler, at SuperSport, where he has scored 54 league goals, has netted 71 times in all competitions since he joined them in the second half of the 2012/13 season.
Since then, he has won two Nedbank Cups, one Telkom Knockout and two MTN8. He was unfortunate when SuperSport lost the CAF Confederation Cup in 2017.
Grobler, despite being at the forefront for the club in scoring big goals, his contract is expiring at the end of the season and SuperSport are yet to indicate whether they will renew it or not.
