Musa Khawula Issues Court-Ordered Apology to Julius Malema and Wife

Controversial blogger Musa Khawula has publicly apologised to Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema and his wife, Mantoa Matlala-Malema, after being compelled by a Gauteng High Court order.

The apology follows defamatory posts Khawula made on his X account in February 2026, falsely claiming the couple’s marriage was collapsing due to alleged infidelity and that divorce proceedings were imminent. The court ruled these statements unlawful, false, and harmful, particularly to the family, including their minor children.

In a formal statement, Khawula declared: “I sincerely and unreservedly apologise to Mr Julius Sello Malema, Mrs Mantoa Matlala Malema and the Malema family for the harm and distress caused by my posts.” He retracted the claims, admitting they were baseless and defamatory.

On his X account, Khawula posted with his signature flair: “Askies neh, my sweet angel baby pie @Julius_S_Malema. I’m also gonna be voting EFF, we can’t afford to lose even one vote by shipping my lil broke a*s to prison, think ahead, my sweet darling, oh! how i love you.”

The apology comes after Khawula initially defied an April 2026 court order to retract the posts, apologise publicly within 24 hours, and pay costs. In May, the court found him in contempt and sentenced him to 30 days’ imprisonment, suspended for 30 days on condition of compliance. Facing the deadline, he issued the apology on 6-7 June 2026.

He has also been barred from making similar statements about the Malema family in future.
