Musa Khawula faces R1 million legal threat from Julius Malema over ‘defamatory’ marriage claims

Julius Malema goes legal against Musa Khawula

Controversial blogger Musa Khawula has found himself in fresh legal trouble, this time in a dispute involving Julius Malema and his wife, Mantwa Matlala.

In a letter of demand dated 26 February and issued by England Slabbert Attorneys Inc., Malema and Matlala threaten to institute civil proceedings seeking damages of up to R1 million, alongside pursuing criminal charges of crimen injuria.

The legal action relates to a series of posts Khawula shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, in which he allegedly claimed that the couple’s marriage was in turmoil due to alleged infidelity.

According to the demand letter, the posts presented unverified allegations as factual statements, resulting in reputational harm and exposing the couple and their family to public scrutiny and ridicule.

The legal team maintains that the marriage is stable, with no divorce proceedings or related legal processes underway.

The letter further characterises the blogger’s statements as “prima facie defamatory,” signalling that the couple is prepared to escalate the matter if their demands are not met.

Khawula, who has previously faced legal challenges over his social media commentary on high-profile figures, has not yet issued a public response to the latest development.
