Mpura’s legacy remembered with upgraded tombstone tribute

Late Amapiano star Mpura, born Mongezi Thomas Stuurman, has received a heartfelt tribute nearly four years after his untimely passing.

Mpura’s memory has now been immortalized through an upgraded tombstone that reflects his legacy.

Renowned granite portrait artist Oscar Dlamini, from Manyano Memorials, was commissioned by Mpura’s family to redesign his final resting place.

The result is a detailed and dignified memorial that now stands as a symbol of the late musician’s impact on South African music.

Speaking about the project, Dlamini said: “The family wanted something more dignified, something that truly represented who Mpura was, not only as a musician, but as a person. It was an honour to be part of this.”

Mpura passed away in August 2021 in a devastating car accident that also claimed the lives of fellow artist Killer Kau and three others.

He was on his way to a gig when tragedy struck.

Since then, tributes have poured in from fans and fellow musicians, with artist Lady Du previously honouring both Mpura and Killer Kau with a lasting tribute.
