A 33-year-old Mpumalanga man accused of the brutal murder of his 10-year-old daughter will remain behind bars after his case was postponed to 2 October 2025.
Nkosinathi Chauke was arrested earlier this week after the lifeless body of his daughter was discovered on the side of the road between Cunningmore A and B. He made a brief appearance before the Mkhuhlu Magistrates Court on Thursday, where the case was postponed for further investigation.
According to Thulisile Magagula, spokesperson for the office of the Provincial Commissioner in Mpumalanga, the child was last seen when Chauke fetched her from her grandmother’s home in Cunningmore, saying he was taking her to buy clothes.
“Upon arrival at the scene, police and Emergency Medical Services found the child lying on the ground. She was certified dead at the scene,” Magagula said.
A murder case was immediately opened, and Chauke was traced and arrested the same day, 22 September 2025, after a tip-off revealed he had been seen in the Masoyi area.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, welcomed the swift arrest and expressed confidence that justice will prevail.
“Fathers are meant to protect their children, not harm them. This is a heartbreaking case that must be met with the full might of the law,” he said.
