The Mpumalanga Education Department said it hopes for an incident-free matric exam period.
The department’s spokesperson Gerald Sambo said teachers have done all they can to prepare pupils, as they’ve spent months working hard in preparation for this year’s Grade 12 exams.
“MEC Bonakele Majuba highlighted that the department is encouraged by the progress to date and urged the candidates to do their best as the teachers have done everything humanly possible to prepare them for these examinations.
“MEC Majuba also encouraged all the candidates to appreciate the significance of these examinations and work hard to make their parents and the community of Mpumalanga proud,” he said.
This as teacher union SADTU has highlighted load shedding as a hindrance to these examinations.
The education MEC is expected to visit iKhayalami Secondary School in Siyathuthuka township on Monday.
Motshekga and Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane are expected to monitor the start of the final national senior certificate examinations in Tshwane.
They will be at Nellmapius Secondary school in Mamelodi as matric candidates sit for their first major paper on Monday.
Meanwhile, the KwaZulu-Natal education department says they are ready to kick off with examinations.
Basic Education deputy minister Reginah Mhaule and the KZN MEC for education, Mbali Frazer will be at Ogwini Comprehensive High School on Monday.
“We are now ready to administer the 2022 matric exams which start in earnest with the biggest paper tomorrow being English Paper 1 with 198 000 candidates that are going to write,” said provincial education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi.
