  • Mpumalanga’s tourism attraction sites have reopened after being temporarily closed due to deadly floods.
  • Nearly 20 people lost their lives, while essential services and schools were disrupted in some areas.
  • Authorities urge visitors to remain cautious as some roads may still be slippery.

All attraction sites managed by the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MPTA) are now open to tourists.

This follows the temporary closure of several attraction sites in the province due to floods that claimed the lives of several people earlier this week and last week.

Nearly 20 people died as a result of the floods in Mpumalanga and Limpopo. The deadly weather also disrupted essential services in some areas and led to the closure of schools, leaving many residents hopeless.

MPTA said the decision to reopen its attraction sites follows a comprehensive assessment conducted after the recent heavy rainfall, which affected parts of the tourism sector in the province.

“The safety of visitors remains a top priority; therefore, visitors are urged to exercise caution when exploring the attraction sites, as some roads may still be slippery due to persistent rainfall,” the Agency said in a statement.

MPTA assured that its employees will be on the ground to assist visitors at all facilities, and tourists are kindly requested to adhere to all safety rules and guidelines during their visit.

The Agency also encouraged tourists visiting Mpumalanga to explore other attraction sites across the province, including those in the Nkangala and Gert Sibande regions.
