Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Thlopie Motsepe has discussed whether head coach Rulani Mokwena is on the right path after starting his reign as sole leader with four wins.

The defending DStv Premiership champions opted to shake up their technical team at the end of last month, with Mokwena becoming the sole head coach, while Steve Komphela was promoted to become First Team Coach and Manqoba Mngqithi will be the Senior Coach.

Ever since, Masandawana have won all their four games, scoring 15 goals and not conceding any, while also lifting the Carling Black Label Cup.

Speaking at the World Football Summit in Durban, Motsepe explained that he believes Mokwena – supported by Komphela and Mngqithi – and the club are on the right track.

“I think he always showed signs of ability. I think it’s like myself, like many young leaders, you’re learning as you go,” he said when asked by iDiski Times whether Mokwena was on the right track.

“Unfortunately sometimes in his position sometimes, he’s the leader of the team and a squad that is surrounded by so many passionate supporters.

“The fact that he has so much ability and we believe in him is one thing, but we’re also so happy that with him he has an assistant and a first-team coach who also have that experience and belief in the club and in the vision.

“It’s a wonderful setup that we have there. We believe that this make up right now is going to lead us to success.”

Sundowns’ technical team have traveled to Qatar, where they will observe the FIFA World Cup first hand, as first reported by SABC Sport.

They will then return to South Africa to prepare their team for the second half of the campaign which continues on 31 December when they will face Orlando Pirates.
