Motsepe Makes Huge SA Football Announcement

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and current CAF president, Dr Patrice Motsepe made a massive announcement about a new national schools sport sponsorship.

Motsepe alongside Dr Precious Moloi Motsepe and Minister Angie Motshekga, Minister of Basic Education, hosted a Press Conference on Thursday to announce a massive national schools sport sponsorship, a first of its kind on our Continent and one of very few in the World.

They were joined by Minister Nathi Mthethwa Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gauteng Premier, Premier Panyaza Lesufi, the former MEC for Education in Gauteng, Dr Danny Jordan, SAFA President and the Leadership of Netball in South Africa.

All these big roles players in SA sport lined up to announce the renewal of a sponsorship by the Motsepe Foundation within school sport, namely the Kay Motsepe Schools Cup.

“The Motsepe Foundation donates a R150 million to school’s football for boys and girls and to schools African choral & indigenous music and schools netball,” Dr Precious Moloi Motsepe announced.

“The Department of Basic Education and the Motsepe Foundation announce today that the Motsepe Foundation is donating a R150 million for the development and growth of school’s football for boys and girls at secondary and primary schools and the promotion of school’s African choral & indigenous music as well as school’s netball.

“The donation of R150 million is for a period of five years. As part of the existing partnership since 2016, R70 million has been donated to date.”

The Kay Motsepe Schools Cup has been and will continue to focus on High School Boys football, with almost thousands of schools competing to be amongst the final 18 that end up at the National play-off style finals and be crowned the best footballing school in the Country.

Further to this, Motsepe Foundation will be announcing a massive extension to this sponsorship, extending its reach four time over, growing it to incorporate more football competitions at a schools level.

Namely, there will now be a Primary Schools National football competition for Boys, a High School National football competition for Girls, a Primary Schools National football competition for Girls, covering both boys and girls in High School and Primary School.

These three new initiatives will have unprecedented value to our Men’s and Women’s National teams in the long run, introducing organized participation across both boys and girls at such an early and critical age.

Added to this, Motsepe Foundation will also be announcing the renewal of the High Schools Netball sponsorship, the Kay Motsepe Schools National netball tournament.

As well the renewal of the Eisteddfod Schools Choral and a Choir music National tournament, finding the best choral and choir schools in our country, this tournament is aimed at ensuring that those children/learners who cannot participate in physical sporting activity for what ever reasons also have an extra mural initiative.
