Polokwane City remain top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship after the weekend’s round of matches, despite ‘Rise & Shine’ starting the year with two draws.
The second tier action began in 2023 on the 4th of January when Polokwane City and Baroka played to a goalless draw.
After a break for the Nedbank Cup qualifiers, the league returned a week later on the 11th of January when All Stars beat La Masia 2-1.
Then, on Friday, Ashley Cupido continued his goalscoring ways as he led Cape Town Spurs to a 1-0 victory over Hungry Lions.
Also on Friday JDR Stars’ Zimbabwean poacher, Ismael Wadi, scored the winner as they defeated neighbours Pretoria Callies 1-0.
All Stars were in action for the second time in four days, against Tshakhuma on Saturday, and won their second successive game as they walked away 2-0 victors on the day.
The derby between Black Leopards and Venda Football Academy ended 1-1, while Casric Stars cemented second place with a 2-1 win over Platinum City Rovers.
Meanwhile, AmaTuks grabbed the early lead at home against Baroka, but the visitors turned the game around and ran out 3-1 winners.
There were two games on Sunday and Clinton Larsen continued his good start at Magesi with a 2-0 win over La Masia, while it ended 1-1 in KwaZulu-Natal between Uthongathi and log leaders Polokwane City.
