Turffontein residents felt the warmth of community care as the Moti Cares Foundation teamed up with Meals on Wheels to deliver blankets, bread, and hot meals.

Together, they reached 500 vulnerable people, offering comfort during the cold winter months.

The handover event, held on Thursday, is part of the Moti Cares Winter Drive. This annual campaign, led by businessman and philanthropist Zunaid Moti, aims to distribute 20,000 blankets.

It will also deliver thousands of food items across South Africa. The initiative targets communities most in need during winter’s harsh conditions, according to Joburg Style.

“There’s no dignity in being cold and hungry,” said Zunaid Moti, founder of Moti Cares. “We believe in showing up consistently, again and again, for those who often get overlooked or forgotten.

The Winter Drive is about kindness, care, and reminding people they matter.”

Meals on Wheels, a non-profit organisation with a proud 61-year history of service. They partnered with Moti Cares to ensure that aid reached the right hands swiftly and respectfully.

The collaboration combined local knowledge with a strong delivery network, making a real difference in Turffontein.

“A warm meal can uplift someone for a day, but a warm blanket brings comfort for an entire season,” said a Meals on Wheels representative.

“Working with Moti Cares allows us to extend our impact beyond food and offer holistic support to those who need it most.”

DISTRIBUTING BLANKETS

Since early June, the Winter Drive has already distributed over 10,000 blankets and countless loaves of bread.

The campaign continues every weekend until the end of August, expanding to new locations each week. The initiative reaches informal settlements, hospitals, and neighbourhoods nominated via social media.

The Moti Cares Foundation focuses on long-term social impact. Zunaid Moti is personally committed to acts of upliftment that go beyond charity. His approach centres on human connection and dignity.

“If we can help someone feel seen, even for a moment, we’ve done our job,” Moti added.

COMMUNITY AND COLLABORATION

This partnership between Moti Cares and Meals on Wheels highlights the power of community and collaboration.

It shows how targeted, compassionate action can bring hope and relief to South Africans facing winter’s challenges.

As the Winter Drive moves forward, thousands more blankets and meals will reach those in need. The message is clear: no one should face winter cold and hunger alone.
