  • A mother has been charged with murder alongside the father of her four-year-old daughter, who died after severe abuse in Eldorado Park.
  • The State combined their cases, with both facing charges of murder and child abuse, while the father also faces a rape charge.
  • The pair abandoned their bail bid in the Protea Magistrates Court, and their case was postponed to 9 October for a pre-trial hearing.

The mother of a four-year-old girl who died after suffering abuse at the hands of her father has now been charged with murder.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has consolidated the parents’ dockets after establishing that they acted with a common purpose.

Both face several charges, including murder and child abuse, while the father also faces a rape charge.

The mother was initially arrested for defeating the ends of justice after failing to report the ongoing abuse her daughter was subjected to.

The arrests followed complaints from Eldorado Park residents earlier this month. A heart-wrenching video also circulated on social media showing the child screaming while being brutally assaulted.

On the day of the father’s arrest, the little girl was found bleeding and severely injured. She was rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries on the same fateful day.

The parents appeared before the Protea Magistrates Court on Monday, where they abandoned their bail application.

The case has been postponed to 9 October for a pre-trial hearing.
