Motaung Junior Responds To Mngqithi-To-Chiefs Rumours

Kaizer Motaung Junior has shut down social media claims that Kaizer Chiefs are plotting to bring Manqoba Mngqithi to Naturena, and he did not hold back.

Mngqithi became a free agent last weekend after his shock axing by Young Africans in Tanzania, just four months into the job.

The timing could hardly have been juicier. The news broke as pressure builds on Chiefs management to sack Fernando Da Cruz following a run of indifferent results since the start of the season.

An X user going by Innocent wakwaMkhize, who has been dishing out football gossip in recent months, claimed he had it on good authority that Amakhosi had opened talks with the former Sundowns coach.

“Hearing now according to UPELEPELE OBABABELA ABASINDIYA, Amakhosi are back to MANQOBA MNQITHI (sic),” he wrote.

“Based on what I’m hearing now is that talks are already taking place behind the scenes, but Manqoba doesn’t want the current technical team.”

The Chiefs sporting director saw the post and replied in two words. “Complete lies,” he wrote.

The denial gives Da Cruz some breathing room, but the questions are not going away. Chiefs were knocked out of the Confederation Cup on penalties by Red Arrows last weekend.

Another loss in the Carling Knockout Cup and in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, which is coming up this weekend, would stack things against the French coach. Motaung Junior has publicly backed the coach, but results of the next two games might still have the final say.
