Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr has given the club’s co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef a mandate for the remainder of the season.
Having failed to win a single trophy this season, Amakhosi boss expects the club to finish in the CAF places. With the league seemingly gone, Chiefs will now need to fight for third place if they are to return to the CAF Confederation Cup.
“We need to finish the season in a Champions League position,” Motaung Jr said on 947.
“It’s about results; the last few results have not been coming, and we need to get results as soon as possible. Results need to come; otherwise, decisions are going to be made, that’s as clear as it is,” he added.
Motaung wants Kaizer Chiefs back in CAF
“You could have a contract until the end of the year, but it’s about the results and performance. The club will announce and sincerely communicate its direction at the time it needs to. I hear where the fans come from. We’re going to make decisive decisions at the correct time.”
Kaizer Chiefs host Durban City and Magesi FC in their remaining matches of March.
“We have two games before the FIFA break, Durban City and Magesi, very important, we need to go out and make sure we get the six points,” he said.
Amakhosi will host Durban City next Sunday, 15 March, at FNB Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00, with the match set to be broadcast live on SuperSport channels.
A victory for the Soweto giants could see them climb back to third place on the log as they push to secure qualification for CAF competitions next season.
A week later, Kaizer Chiefs play struggling Magesi, hoping to end the month on a high. A Champions League position will mean the co-coaches will need to finish in the top 2, which is unlikely. A CAF Confederation spot can be secured if Chiefs end up third.
