Al Ahly SC coach Pitso Mosimane has come out to explain the pressure one faces when managing clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly SC.
Sundowns host Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League group stages on Saturday afternoon at the FNB Stadium.
The 2016 Coach of the Year mentioned that it is not easy to manage the two African giants and says that you are always under pressure.
“When you coach a team of Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly SC you’re expected to win all the time, that’s your life as a coach and its normal and you must also understand, I’ve been living with this for many years,” Mosimane said during CAF Champions League press conference on Friday afternoon.
“It’s like you ask a coach who’s team is on the relegation zone, in that last three on log, how do feel the pressure it’s the same as at the top, the pressure is big. We have pressure of course because we’ve won the champions league back to back and we expected to win it and we believe will win it again its pressure for us, but it’s also pressure for Mamelodi Sundowns they haven’t won it for seven years.”
“To make a good team you need time and sometimes football doesn’t give you time especially at the highest level, you can’t buy time in football the only time you can buy time is when you keep winning and all the coaches will tell you especially at the level of expectation of big team you don’t have time.
“I know how long it took me to get Mamelodi Sundowns into the group stages I am not talking about about winning the champions league to go to the group stages and I know how many years it took to get Mamelodi Sundowns out of Group stages to the quarter finals and how long it took for me to take Mamelodi Sundowns out of quarter-finals to the semi-finals and then the final. So it took me eight years.”
