Mosimane Gives CAFCL Medal Away

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has allegedly given his runners-up medal from the CAF Champions League final away.

The South African tactician was on the sidelined in his fourth CAF Champions League final and tasted defeat for a first time.

Mosimane’s side lost 2-0 to Wydad Athletic Club, who were massively backed by the home crowd at the Stade Mohamed V.

While Wydad lifted their third CAF Champions League trophy, Al Ahly failed to claim their record-extending 11th title.

The Club of the Century also missed out on becoming the first side to win the trophy in three successive campaigns and many Al Ahly players seen taking their medals down immediately after the handover and before leaving the awards stage – antics, which were heavily criticised by Steve Komphela.

However, it wasn’t just the players who took their medals down, as even coach Mosimane was taking his silver medal off his neck.

In fact, he did give his medal away to a photographer, as reported by Algerian journalist Maher Mezahi, who was at the Stade Mohamed V as an eye witness and when contacted by iDiski Times confirmed the incident.

It wasn’t the first time that Mosimane gave a runners-up medal away, as he did the same following his side’s 3-2 defeat on penalties in the Egyptian Super Cup against Tala’ea Geish in September 2021.
