Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane was critical of his country man Victor Gomes’ performance in Monday’s CAF Champions League final.
The South African tactician and his lost 2-0 on the night, with Wydad Athletic Club securing their third CAF Champions League trophy.
After the match, Mosimane was critical of the final being hosted at Wydad’s home ground, and also pointed out one major mistake – in his view – of Gomes, whom he had praised as “No.1 referee one the continent” before the final.
“I have no problem with the referee except for time-wasting, especially in the second half, and the referee should have kept time,” he said, as quoted by Yallakora.
“Victor Gomes could have managed the time better, he was fixing his things for three minutes, the goalkeeper was down, I was running around looking for balls coz there were no ball boys, they wasted a lot of time, while returning the ball.
“This happened because Al Ahly is playing the match at the opponent’s court, and for this it was natural for Wydad to win amid all these circumstances.”
Overall, though, Gomes received good reviews for how he handled the feisty atmosphere at the Stade Mohamed V, with Rulani Mokwena praising the match official and his team in his post-match analysis on SuperSport TV.
