Police are widening their net in the crackdown on illegal miners in Gauteng.
Twenty-four people have been arrested for illegal mining during Wednesday’s sting operation on Gauteng’s West Rand, adding to the more than 120 arrests in previous days.
Provincial Police Commissioner Elias Mawela says most of the suspects were found in West Village.
The clampdown comes after the brutal gang rape of eight women at a disused mine last week in Krugersdorp.
“The operation is progressing very well and right now the number of people arrested has now risen,” he said.
