Over R1-billion has been allocated towards the rebuilding of homes destroyed in last month’s deadly KwaZulu-Natal floods.

That’s according to a spokesperson for the provincial Human Settlements Department, Ndabezinhle Sibiya.

Last week, Premier Sihle Zikalala announced his budget for the 2022-2023 financial year.

The provincial government is continuing with the tabling of budget votes.

“The focus is to usher in a new era of prosperity. Quite a number of people are affected by devastating floods. What the MEC is emphasizing is that there should be speed and intergrity without compromising quality,” Sibiya said.

“He’s appreciated an integrated approach adopted by all spheres of government. Kubayi was here, also met with De lille and provincial government where the focus was identifying land that would be used to relocate those affected, a billion allocated to ensure we deal with the situation we’re facing, speed, efficiency and integrity is what the MEC is emphasising.”
