Mokwena says Caf CL blow out doesn’t taint ‘a good season’ | African News

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has reflected on the season the team had and feels Ka Bo Yellow have done way better than last season. With the disappointment of bombing out of the Caf Champions League still fresh, Mokwena says the possibility of winning a treble makes it a better term than 2020/21.

Masandawana have already won the MTN8 Cup, which had eluded the club in previous seasons, the DStv Premiership for the fifth successive season and are in the Nedbank Cup final. They face Marumo Gallants in the Nedbank final on May 28 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg. 

“We had a fairly good season, from a playing point of view, may e on the naked eye, it is not so evident, but if you check last season, we lost in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup against TTM on penalties, this year we are in the final,” he told the media during a press conference held at Chloorkop.

With Bafana Ba Style falling short in the quarter-final of the Champions League at the hands of Pedro de Luanda of Angola 3-2 on aggregate, Mokwena believes that doesn’t make their season a failed one.

“This season, we speak of possibly winning a treble, which isn’t done often, so we can’t let just one competition [CAF Champions League] label our season as a bad season,” added the 35-year-old coach.

Downs wrapped up the title with four games to go. They have scored the highest number of goals [53] and conceded the least [15].
