Mamelodi Sundowns co head coach Rulani Mokwena has reflected on the two weeks in Egypt, as Sundowns picked up four points out of a possible six in two away CAF Champions League group stages games.

Sundowns historically beat Al Ahly in Cairo for the first time, while the week before they drew 0-0 with Al-Merrikh.

They are currently topping the group with seven points, three ahead of Merrikh, and six ahead of Ahly and Al Hilal. Merrikh and Ahly have played two games, while Sundowns and Al Hilal have played three.

Mokwena says that overall it was a satisfactory trip, and while they did not get the six points they wanted, there were other elements to the trip that were successful.

“Well, I think speaking after the trip, we can probably say a satisfactory trip, one where we are not entirely happy,” Mokwena told the club’s media department on Sunday.

“We always want to improve, but if you look at it, where we went and we wanted six points, we got only four but ja, so if it’s part of six you can be satisfied and content.

“We had other objectives like to try to put the team together, to try to work a little bit to improve a bit on the technical tactical things in preparing for the two different opponents.

“We also tried to work on our conditioning, particularly for the players that have not been playing and getting a lot of game time, players that are returning from injury like Musa (Lebusa), Lebo Maboe, and the facilities also helped in that regard.

“So we’re quietly content and now it’s just to focus. “
