Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has played down the numbers switch of Marcelo Allende taking Kermit Erasmus’ 11 jersey.
Masandawana beat Stellenbosch comfortably 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon but one of the big talking points was Allende’s arrival after he scored on his debut in the number 11 shirt, which was previously worn by Erasmus.
The club has not made any announcement on the 32-year-old, but iDiski Times understand he is looking for more playing time and could leave the club on loan.
However, Mokwena insisted that he’s still part of the squad and other players have also changed jersey numbers this season.
“I am the wrong person to ask. The club will give you the information on that,” Mokwena said when quizzed about the Erasmus-Allende numbers’ switch.
“Ask me about why he played as a 10 and what movements he needs, to me that’s beautiful. The administrative things wrong person to ask, sorry.
“The club has not said anything and therefore everybody that is here and registered for Sundowns is here.
“A lot of numbers have changed, you’ve seen different numbers also on different players and then you have not asked that question before.
“Rushine [De Reuck] I think is wearing a different number. Tebza is wearing a different number.
“So, the club will make that communication. There is still some time. The club will make announcements in due course.”
Earlier on Thursday, Sundowns confirmed the exit of striker Pavol Šafranko, who has vacated the number 9 shirt at Chloorkop.
