Mokwena On Mammila’s Jibe: Anything I Say Is Misconstrued

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena refused to respond to the claims of Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila, saying anything he says is often interpreted differently and misconstrued.

Mammila stirred things up prior to the league match against Sundowns at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium over the weekend, saying they will go pound for pound with the Tshwane giants, adding that his side “are not scared” of the defending champions.

However, as is often the case, Sundowns found their way to break Chippa down by scoring two goals in the first half to win the encounter to continue their 100% record this season.

It is now four wins out of four for Masandawana, with Mokwena unbeaten in 24 league matches since he assumed the head coach role in October last year.

On the other hand, Chippa were searching for their first league win over Sundowns, having not won against the Tshwane giants since they first met ahead of the 2012/13 season.

Speaking in the post-match presser, Mokwena, was asked to reply to Mammila’s jibe — who later explained on social media that he was trying to hype the game — the Sundowns coach flatly declined, saying he better not say anything because when it comes to him things are stirred up differently than with other coaches.

“On the talks before, I don’t want to say anything, no comments from me,” said Mokwena, who was yellow-carded during the match.

“As you guys know, there are different rules from different coaches. I have a different set of rules. I don’t have to speak too much because anything I say is either misconstrued and deliberately so sometimes.

“So I would rather not say anything and just congratulate my players.”

Sundowns are now in Durban as they next visit winless Richards Bay at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday (17:00).
