Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has insisted that TS Galaxy had an advantage against his side because of the “intel” from Sibusiso Vilakazi, and also hinted at more signings to be announced.

Masandawana lost their first game of the 2022/23 campaign, going down 1-0 to the Rockets on Wednesday evening.

Mokwena admitted after the match that new Galaxy signing Vilakazi, who had spent six years at Chloorkop before his departure this window must’ve given their Tuesday opponents some “intel” before the game.

“It’s one of those, one of 30. Not an easy one against a well-coached side,” he told reporters.

“You could see that having had Vila trained with us, [he’s] a very intelligent person. He trained with us the entire pre-season, [which] played a little bit into their advantage because he has so much intel.

“They knew 150% the weaknesses of our team. But be that as it may, we could’ve played better. We know that we can play better.

“We know we had a couple of players not on regular momentum, intensity, personality but that’s preparation and preparation is always us as coaches and if the team is not well-prepared in relation to the duels, the physicality and the intensity then we have to look ourselves first and check how we prepared the team and hopefully we can prepared the team better for the next match.”

Sundowns have announced the arrivals of Sipho Mbule, Ronwen Williams and Abubeker Nassir, who made his debut on Wednesday. However, Morocco defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil and Chilean winger Marcelo Allende are also still expected to arrive at Chloorkop after their two clubs already announced the players’ transfers to Sundowns.

When asked whether the club’s transfer business is done, Mokwena hinted at more signings to be announced.

“We’ll see, I don’t think the business is done but we’ll see,” he added.

“The club will make the necessary announcements. But no, business is not done, chequebook is not closed.”
