Mokwena – I’ll Never Speak Negative About My Players

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena was not interested in discussing rumours that certain players arrived under the influence of alcohol to training when asked after his side beat Marumo Gallants in the Nedbank Cup.

The defending champions became the first side to book their Nedbank Cup quarter-final ticket thanks to a Peter Shalulile hat-trick.

It was a very focussed performance from Mokwena’s men, who were clearly not affected by the noise around the club, with several reports claiming that some players arrived under the influence of alcohol in recent weeks.

“Well, I’ve said, if you look for negatives from me about my players, I don’t have,” he quizzed about the rumours.

“I’ll never speak negative about my players. Never, ever, ever. So I’ve got no comment on that.”

Earlier Mokwena compared his side to Premier League champions Manchester City, when discussing his team’s display on SuperSport TV after the match.

“A lot of teams know how Man City create the chances, a lot of teams know how Sundowns create the chances,” he said.

“But the players are so good, the game belongs to the players and a lot of credit goes to this honest, honest group.

“Honestly we’re very lucky to be coaching this honest group of players, very lucky.”

Downs will now turn their focus back to DStv Premiership football and travel to Stellenbosch FC on Sunday.
