New Wydad Casablanca coach Rhulani Mokwena is putting together his technical team and may bring veteran coach Allan Freese to Morocco.

Mokwena, confirmed as Wydad’s coach last week, previously worked with Freese at Free State Stars.

Mokwena has been given the rare responsibility of choosing his sporting director.

“I’ve been given the responsibility to select the sporting director and the technical team, and I’m humbled,” Mokwena said on Metro FM.

“In my contract, I will interview the sporting director along with the directors. The most important thing is to put the club first.”

This opportunity comes after Mokwena had issues with Mamelodi Sundowns’ technical director, Flemming Berg, which led to his departure from Sundowns.

Mokwena has confirmed one member of his Wydad team so far, former Mamelodi Sundowns reserve team coach Sinethemba Badela.

“Coach Themba and I have watched over 500 players on different platforms. It’s a lot of work, and we are doing a lot of analysis,” he said.

“I’m very focused now and looking forward to the challenge. I do this because I love it, not for the money. This entire week I’ve been watching the Wydad academy teams because the senior team hasn’t started yet.”

Wydad will not play in the CAF Champions League next season after finishing sixth in the Moroccan Botola League last season.

However, they are looking forward to the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup next year, which will be a big test for Mokwena if he is still with Wydad.

“We are not strengthening the team for local competitions, but the Club World Cup is our main focus,” Mokwena said.

He said he is not keen on signing players from his former club, Sundowns, unless they are offered or released.
