Mokwena Accepts Underdog Tag Vs Chiefs

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has accepted the “underdog tag” ahead of facing Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

The defending champions face Chiefs at Loftus Versfeld and come into the game off a defeat against TS Galaxy, while Amakhosi beat Maritzburg United 3-0.

The recent results have seen Amakhosi climb above Downs on the log based on their better goal difference. As a consequence Mokwena was asked whether Downs are happy going as “underdogs” into the game.

“No, we welcome the tag. We welcome the tag,” he said during his pre-match press conference.

“Where will it be won or lost? On the pitch. (laughs) And that’s why I welcome the tag because the tag won’t play on the pitch.

“We don’t have the right at the moment, it’s okay. We don’t have the right, we lost the match yesterday and Chiefs won the previous match.

“It’s okay, we will humbly take it and we’ll approach this game with the utmost humility and accept that we are the underdogs for this one. That gives us no pressure also so which is good.”

Masandawana welcome Chiefs at Loftus Versfeld Stadium at 15:00 on Saturday, with the highly-expected clash being confirmed as sold out.
