Mokopane Court Denies Bail To Suspended Mogalakwena Municipal Manager Morris Maluleke
The Mokopane Magistrates’ Court in Limpopo has denied bail to suspended Mogalakwena Local Municipality manager Morris Maluleke (43), who faces charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering linked to a municipal fleet-management contract.
Maluleke, who was arrested by the Hawks on 7 October 2026, appeared for his formal bail application on 16 October. The State opposed his release, arguing that he could interfere with witnesses and ongoing investigations.
The court ruled that Maluleke had failed to prove that his release would be in the interests of justice.
According to the prosecution, Maluleke allegedly authorised payments amounting to approximately R24 million for a fleet-management contract initially valued at around R4 million.
He is also accused of irregularly awarding a R24 million tender to Fleetmove (Pty) Ltd in December 2022 without following the required procurement procedures.
Investigators further allege that R230 000 in suspected kickbacks was paid into an account linked to a company of which Maluleke is the sole director.
The case forms part of a broader Hawks investigation into an alleged R45 million fleet-management tender scandal at the municipality.
Maluleke remains in custody, and the matter is expected to return to court on 3 November 2026 for further investigation. x.com/MDNnewss/statu…
