Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng capped a sensational 2025/26 season by emerging as the biggest winner at the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards held in Johannesburg on Monday evening.
The 21-year-old attacking sensation walked away with the league’s most prestigious individual honour, the PSL Footballer of the Season, after inspiring the Buccaneers to a memorable campaign before sealing a move abroad.
Mofokeng completed a remarkable treble of awards after also being named the Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season and the Betway Premiership Young Player of the Season, underlining his status as one of South Africa’s brightest football talents.
League champions Orlando Pirates dominated the Betway Premiership awards, with head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou being voted Betway Premiership Coach of the Season following a successful campaign that saw the Soweto giants lift the league title.
Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine was named Goalkeeper of the Season, while defender Lebone Seema claimed the Defender of the Season accolade. Midfield maestro Oswin Appollis received the Midfielder of the Season award, and teammate Camren Dansin collected the Goal of the Season honour.
In the domestic cup categories, veteran goalkeeper Darren Keet, who retired at the end of the season, was recognised as the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament after playing a crucial role in Durban City’s successful cup campaign. Seluleko Mahlambi of TS Galaxy was named the Most Promising Player of the Tournament.
Former Orlando Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi received the Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament award, while fellow Buccaneers star Tshepang Moremi was crowned the MTN8 Last Man Standing.
Cape Town City dominated the Motsepe Foundation Championship awards after Emile Witbooi won the Players’ Player of the Season, Gabriel Armato was named Young Player of the Season, and goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart walked away with the Goalkeeper of the Season award.
In the DStv Diski Challenge, Mamelodi Sundowns youngster Bennet Mokoena enjoyed a memorable evening after winning both the Player of the Season and Top Goal Scorer awards following an outstanding campaign.
The evening also recognised the country’s top match officials. Eugene Mdluli was named Referee of the Season, while Nandipha Menze received the Assistant Referee of the Season accolade.
The glittering awards ceremony celebrated the outstanding performers across South African football, with Orlando Pirates emerging as the biggest winners after a season in which both the club and its players excelled on the domestic stage.
