Mofokeng earns high praise from Panama boss

Panama’s head coach, Thomas Christianse, has highlighted Orlando Pirates star player Relebohile Mofokeng as one of the most impressive members of the Bafana Bafana squad.

The Central American team played two friendly matches against Bafana, winning one and drawing the other.

Panama is ranked almost 30 places higher than Hugo Broos’s team, and Tuesday’s 2-1 victory demonstrated why they hold such a high ranking. It served as a crucial test for South Africa ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Mofokeng, who participated in both friendlies against Panama, particularly stood out in Tuesday’s match, where he created several goal-scoring opportunities.

“The South African side, Mofokeng is a very good player. He can make the difference,” the Panama head coach told the media.

“He’s fast, technically skilled, and very strong. He has a good view. He can give good passes and as a young player, he’s very important for the future.”

Christiansen also praised Lyle Foster, Bongokuhle Hlongwane as well as Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

“You have [Lyle] Foster up front with experience, midfielders who cover a lot of space, and a good goalkeeper.”

“Also, their full-backs are technically strong and good in attack, so you have a good squad.

“Mbokazi, although I didn’t mention him, is a good centre-back with a lot of quality. I could have mentioned more players, but we don’t have much time now.

“Okay, and we also had the player from Minnesota [Bongokuhle Hlongwane], yes, he’s also a good player. Yeah, I can mention everyone,” Christiansen added.

Mofokeng started Tuesday’s match against Panama and created a brilliant opportunity for Hlongwane to score, but the Minnesota United striker failed to convert. In the second half, President yama 2000 was replaced by Themab Zwane, who assisted Bafana’s only goal, which was scored by Mbokazi.

Did Mofokeng impress?
