Modiba Opens Up On CAFCL Talk In Training

Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Aubrey Modiba has revealed he and his teammates talk a lot in training about chasing the CAF Champions League title.

Sundowns won the continental championship in 2016 but have ended up short ever since, being eliminated in the quarter-finals in the last two campaigns.

The Limpopo-born left-back says all they talk about in training is winning another star because they know what comes with winning the trophy.

“I’m not going to lie to you; this is a conversation that we have at training to say we have been coming out at the quarter-finals twice ever since I came to Sundowns,” Modiba told iDiski Times journalist Lethabo Kganyago in edition 83.

“So right now this is a conversation that we are having among players and coaches. We want to give it a shot, we want to do well and obviously when you win the Champions League you go to the Club World Cup which is a big tournament with lots of scouts and people watching.

“So it is a conversation that we have all the time, we are going to take it one game at a time and hopefully this time around we can go as far as possible.

“I believe we have got a strong team that can be able to achieve that and we just have to work hard, stay humble and do well in that space.”

Meanwhile Sundowns were this week drawn in Group B in this season’s Champions League campaign with Al Ahly, Al Hila and Coton Sport.
