Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi says there weren’t any favourable draws in the MTN8 semi-finals with the strength of the current oppositions.
Sundowns dumped out their Tshwane rivals in the MTN8 quarterfinal SuperSport United on Sunday evening by 2-0, and they were the last team to complete the four teams after AmaZulu, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs eliminated Cape Town City, Stellenbosch FC and Royal AM respectively.
Masandawana were drawn against Pirates on Monday evening in the first semi-final that will have two legs. Manqoba said there were no better team they could ask for, as all the teams remaining are doing well. The Sundowns-Pirates fixture has been one-sided as Downs won all the last five games.
“I think this was not gonna be an easy draw for anyone when you’ve got four teams that are currently doing well. You could expect anything we could’ve had AmaZulu or Kaizer Chiefs and all of them are currently doing well at the moment,” he said.
“So we just had to take whoever we get and trust in our process and trust in our team we think our team is capable of defending our trophy. And we will give it our best shot and with all the respect that is necessary of course, we can never take anyone for granted in this competition more especially this season every team really, really working very hard to show that they are prepared“
The Yellow Nation is preparing to face SuperSport on Friday in the DStv Premiership round six fixture. It is just five days after the MTN8 battle that took place at Tuks stadium.
