Mncube Spoils Chiefs’ 53rd Birthday At The Calabash

Sekhukhune United dampened the mood at FNB Stadium with a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs on their 53rd-anniversary celebration.

In a half where both sides had a chance to open the scoring, Chiefs would have gone into the break feeling the more aggrieved.

Current league top scorer Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana and Keagan Dolly, who was forced off with an injury had half chances while Kamohelo Mahlatsi could feel aggrieved for not winning a penalty after he appeared to have been fouled by Badra Ali Sangare.

However, Babina Noko took it in their stride and went on to take the lead two minutes after the break when Vusimuzi Mncube profited from a poor first touch from Zitha Kwinika and ran in through on goal to slot the ball past Itumeleng Khune.

Chiefs looked to up the tempo after falling behind with coach Arthur Zwane adding the pace of Ashley du Preez for Mahlatsi.

And they nearly profited ten minutes later but found Sangare in inspired form as he pulled off some impressive saves.

The Ivory Coast international went on to frustrate Amakhosi and their supporters by winding the clock with some time-wasting tactics and when called upon by Mduduzi Shabalala five minutes from time, pulled off another top drawer save.

Six points in two games from Brandon Truter and his boys moved the up to 10th place while Chiefs remained in fourth, 13 points off league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
