New TS Galaxy signing Xolani Mlambo has commented on Benni McCarthy’s gig with Manchester United, saying it’s a great move for South Africa as a whole.
Mlambo, 31, experienced McCarthy as a coach first hand over the last two years at AmaZulu before he left the club.
He was part of the Usuthu team that finished in second place in 2020/21 and also qualified for the group stages of the CAF Champions League in their first ever CAF campaign.
While Mlambo himself switched the AmaZulu shirt for the Galaxy kit, McCarthy was recently appointed as first-team coach in Erik Ten Hag’s backroom staff at United – something his former player is excited about.

“If you have the highest qualification as a coach, you’re bound to work anywhere and it was his time and God granted it,” he said on Thursday.
“We’re happy for him and we wish him nothing but the best. Everyone of us as South Africans to present us in the highest league possibly, it’s great for the country, it’s great for other coaches as well.
“It says and shows that everything is attainable as long as you put your mind to it.”
Mlambo and Galaxy themselves kick off their season against AmaZulu on Sunday, however, the new signing will be unavailable for the clash due to a carried-over yellow card suspension from the last 2021/22 campaign.
