Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League side Mlambo Royal Cubs have fired their technical team just five games into the new season.

Head coach Sunnyboy Mtakwende and assistant coach Diale Sam were shown the exit following poor results.

This comes after their 1-0 loss to Destiny College at home over the weekend.

Mtakwende had taken over the coaching reigns from former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Humphrey Mlwane, who was sacked earlier this year [March].

Meanwhile, Sam had previously served as the head coach of Ally Tigers and Malanti Chiefs in Eswatini and the technical director of FC Maginim in North West province.

In the five games they have played, including the Nedbank Cup qualification, they managed to win two matches, drew one and lost two in the process.

“We would like to announce that we have parted ways with head coach Zitha Sunnyboy and assistant coach Diale Sam,” read the club’s official statement.

“We would like to thank them for their cooperation and hard work for the club, and we wish them luck in their future career.”

As a result, goalkeeper coach Jele Bheki will take over the club as an interim coach until further notice.

Currently, Mlambo are in the sixth position in Stream B of the provincial ABC League with one point from two outings.

Emawundlu Enkosi, as they are popularly known, will play their next league fixture on Saturday, 22 October, against Sibange Young Bucks at Embuzini Stadium.

The kick-off is scheduled for 15:00.

FANS REACTION…

Mlambo fans took to social media after the sacking of the club’s technical team to share their reactions.

One of Mlambo’s fans commented: “It’s a harsh decision, but in fact, I believe they made a wrong choice hiring him in the first place [my opinion]. I believe Royal Cubs need a big coach at the moment because of their stature as a team.

Another said: “Not a surprise a coach who loses in home games.”

The other follower added: “Not a bad record; the decision might prove to be their downfall.”
