The leadership of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) in Limpopo has thrown its support behind secretary-general Sibonelo Nomvalo while moving to discipline provincial legislator Lulamile Jack over a complaint he lodged against the party official.
In a statement, the party’s provincial leadership dismissed Jack’s criticisms of Nomvalo as “divisive, unfounded and factional” and accused him of attempting to undermine efforts aimed at strengthening accountability within the organisation.
The development follows a complaint submitted by Jack to the chairperson of the MK Party’s National Disciplinary Committee, Dali Mpofu, in which he accused Nomvalo of conduct that allegedly brought the party into disrepute and contravened its constitution.
Jack, who previously served as a personal bodyguard to slain South African Communist Party leader Chris Hani, argued in his complaint that Nomvalo’s conduct had placed the MK Party in a difficult position.
In his complaint, Jack said that Nomvalo had contravened the MK Party’s disciplinary framework through his handling of a matter involving the party’s second deputy president, Tony Yengeni, and traditional leader Inkosi Chiliza.
Jack claimed Nomvalo’s correspondence regarding disciplinary action against Chiliza created procedural irregularities and undermined confidence in the party’s governance processes. He further alleged that the secretary-general’s conduct risked deepening divisions within the organisation and had generated controversy over the party’s relationship with traditional leadership structures.
He then asked Mpofu to investigate Nomvalo’s conduct and determine whether he remained fit to hold office as secretary-general, while recommending that he be suspended and relieved of his leadership responsibilities pending the outcome of the process.
However, the Limpopo leadership has now publicly rejected Jack’s position, insisting that both the provincial leadership and membership remain fully behind the secretary-general.
According to the party, Nomvalo is currently engaged in an intensive programme aimed at rooting out opportunism and political careerism within the party through the introduction of stricter financial accountability measures across all provinces.
“The leadership and members of MKP in Limpopo province are fully in support of the Secretary General, Cde Sibonelo Nomvalo,” the party said.
It further described Jack’s complaint as a reactionary attempt to derail the implementation of institutional accountability within the party and urged members to dismiss the allegations.
The MKP in the province added that the letter authored by Jack did not reflect the views of the party’s leadership or members in Limpopo.
According to the statement, the issues raised by Jack are not part of the province’s political programme and have no bearing on the MK Party’s preparations for the 2026 local government elections.
The provincial leadership also defended the party’s position on traditional leadership, saying it maintained strong relations with traditional leaders in Limpopo and viewed them as important partners in advancing the interests of communities.
At the same time, it stressed that provincial structures would not involve themselves in matters relating to other provinces, arguing that such issues fall under the jurisdiction of the party’s national leadership.
In addition, the Limpopo leadership announced that disciplinary action would be instituted against Jack for allegedly using an official party letterhead to express personal views on a national matter.
The party said his actions constituted a violation of both the MK Party’s constitution and code of conduct.
“The leadership of the province will be instituting disciplinary measures against the conduct of Cde Lulamile Jack,” the party said.
The latest development highlights growing tensions within sections of the MK Party as internal battles over leadership, accountability and organisational direction continue to play out publicly.
